BioPAL was founded to develop, manufacture and market a new generation of
high-precision alternatives to traditional radioactive products based on novel
lanthanide chemistry. As a
result, our products are ideally suited for applications in in vivo
diagnostics using neutron activation (NA) technology or
magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI), or in in vitro diagnostics using
time resolved fluorescent
(TRF) technology, electron microscopy (EM) or
magnetic cell sorting technology.
Neutron Activation Products:
BioPAL is the first company to develop and provide in vivo diagnostics products
based on neutron activation (NA) analysis as the read-out system. BioPAL
provides the NA analysis as an out-source service, i.e., researchers send
samples-of-interest to BioPAL. Our assay service measures the
concentration of labeled compounds in biological samples, such as tissue and
blood. Assay mechanics are based on a proprietary automated NA system.
In many cases, this technology provides information with improved sensitivity
and specificity beyond that achieved by optical markers and traditional
radioactive labels. Benefits include:
Avoid the Use of Radioactive and Hazardous Reagents
This assay is nonradioactive for the researcher and requires none of the hazardous reagents associated with optical measurements. Therefore, researchers and biotech companies do not require an NRC license nor will they need to purchase and maintain expensive in-house laboratory equipment.
Have Access to a Highly Sensitive and Specific Assay Technology
Neutron activation provides a highly sensitive measurement of our stable-labeled products. Unlike other methods, our assay does not require post-labeling with antibodies or extensive sample preparations that can result in sample contamination or sample loss. In many cases, our stable-labeled products and assay service offers increased sensitivity well beyond that achievable by optical markers and traditional radiolabels.
Multiple Labels
Nature has provided a large number of stable isotopes that can be used to label research products and can be efficiently and simultaneously assayed by neutron activation. Therefore, BioPAL can provide you with maximum flexibility during assay development.
Archive and Re-Assay the Original Sample
Assayed samples can be stored for future reference and re-assayed, if necessary, at a later date. Furthermore, samples can be re-assayed to provide additional signal amplification retrieving information that would otherwise be lost using alternative technology.
Reduce Your Required Start-up Costs
Researchers and research institutions do not have to invest in expensive hardware, purchase high-priced reagents, or secure additional laboratory labor for this assay.
Evaluate Highly Concentrated or Dense Samples
Neutrons are highly penetrating. Therefore, concentrated samples or samples of varying material compositions can be assayed. This assay eliminates signal quenching errors associated with both beta-radiation counting (i.e. 3H, 14C, 32P, 35S) and optical measurements.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Electron Microscopy
Products:
BioPAL is the only provider of MRI reagents exclusively to the life science
community. Although BioPAL offers iron-based materials, we specialize in
gadolinium-labeled reagents. In addition, BioPAL is also the only provider
of reagents dedicated to EM. We specialize in lanthanide-labeled materials
that provide both visualization by EM and provide unique signals via
x-ray fluorescence.
Time Resolved Fluorescence (TRF) Products:
BioPAL is becoming a leading provider of TRF reagents. Due to novel
lanthanide chemistry developed at BioPAL, we have developed unique TRF reagents
that provide the highest level of sensitivity and specificity. The
products are ideally suited for in vitro diagnostics and drug discovery.
Magnetic Separation Products:
One of the best things about patents is that they expire, which is why BioPAL
is able to bring you BioMagic™,
silane-coated magnetite particles made by the inventor and made the right way at
the right price! Magnetic particle technology allows for the simple, rapid
and efficient enrichment or depletion of specific cell populations.
BioPAL's products are well suited for use in immunoassay, RNA separation, and
cell sorting applications. In addition, BioPAL has developed Trackable BioMagic, a standard
magnetic iron oxide particle that is laced with europium. As a result,
researchers can track and quantify the fate of the particles under different
experimental conditions either by time resolved fluorescent technology (TRF) or
by neutron activation (NA).
