Technical Information
For several magnetic separation protocols, it is desirable to be able to
track and quantify the magnetic particles. For these
applications, BioPAL has developed Trackable BioMagic™.
Trackable BioMagic is a standard
iron oxide magnetic particle that is laced with europium. As a result,
researchers can track and quantify the fate of the magnetic particles under different
experimental conditions either by time resolved fluorescent technology (TRF) or
by neutron activation (NA).
Like
TorrentDOTS™,
the europium contained in the magnetic particle does not contain a TRF antenna. As a result, researchers planning to use TRF readout systems
will need to purchase BioPAL's releasing reagent. This reagent is
formulated to both (1) breakdown the iron oxide colloidal core and then (2)
individually chelate an antenna onto the released europium atoms. The
degree of sensitivity and quantification achievable by TFR is dependent on many
factors outside the control of BioPAL, such as the limitation of the customer's
readout equipment and variation in sample preparation, i.e., sample size,
density, viscosity, temperature, etc. As a result, customers must evaluate
these parameters. Alternatively, BioPAl offers neutron activation analysis
of samples-of-interest as an out-source service, i.e., customers send samples to
BioPAl for analysis. Neutron activation provides a sensitive and
quantitative measurement that is matrix independent. Trackable BioMagic
has patent pending status.
The Products
- Trackable BioMagic - Amino-Terminated:
1.5 µm amine-terminated, europium-laced iron oxide magnetic particles and are packaged in a
10 ml sealed bottle (50 mg/ml) suspended in distilled water/EDTA solution.
- Trackable BioMagic - Immobilization
Kit: BioPAL has developed an immobilization kit for those researchers
new to magnetic separation technology to customize the magnetic particles with their
antibody. The BioMagic
immobilization kit consists of a suspension of 1.5 µm amine-terminated,
europium-laced iron oxide magnetic particles, 25% solution of high purity glutaraldehyde,
and instructions.

BioMagic - Biotin: 1.5
µm biotin labeled, europium-laced iron oxide magnetic oxide particles and are packaged in a 5 ml
sealed bottle (5 mg/ml) suspended in phosphate buffered saline (pH 7.5)
containing 0.1% BSA with EDTA and sodium azide added. One ml (5 mg) of
BioMagic Biotin will bind >0.3 mg
avidin.

BioMagic - Streptavidin:
1.5 µm streptavidin labeled, europium-laced iron oxide magnetic particles and are packaged
in a 5 ml or a 50 ml sealed bottle (5 mg/ml) suspended in phosphate buffered
saline (pH 7.5) containing 0.1% BSA with EDTA and sodium azide added.
One ml (200 µl) of BioMagic
Streptavidin will bind 2.0 µg biotin.

BioPAL offers a line of secondary antibody Trackable BioMagic
europium-laced, iron oxide magnetic particles that are approximately 1.5 µm is size. These products are
ideally suited for use as a second antibody in radioimmunoassays, enzyme
immunoassays and cell sorting that utilize an IgG primary monoclonal antibody.

IgG: 1.5 µm Goat anti-Mouse IgG magnetic particles and are packaged in a 50 ml
or a 500 ml sealed bottle (1 mg/ml) suspended in phosphate buffered saline
(pH 7.5) with EDTA and sodium azide added. One ml (1 µg) of BioMagic
Goat anti-Mouse IgG will bind >0.2 mg of mouse IgG.
